The Struggle of a Weak Aristocrat in a Different World C25: Drinks and pot-in-a-pot

We arrived safely at the bar and started drinking immediately.

「「「「 Kanpai! 」」」」

“Kanpai……”

My mood was completely defeated as I was carried away by the current and came to the bar. The other four gulped down their mugs of ale in one gulp.

“Yuck! Another one!”

“You’re a good drinker, I can’t lose! Another one!”

While the four of them continued to drink at a fast pace, I was sipping on a glass of milk.

“You never told me your name. What’s your name Ni-chan?”

“My name’s Chris.”

I don’t want to reveal that I’m a nobleman, because it’s not a good look for me to be in a tavern in the daytime.

“Nice to meet you! Chris! My name’s Yakut.”

“Yakut, nice to meet you, you’re probably a foreigner. What are you doing here?”

Yakut then replied in an embarrassed tone.

“Well, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but my dad is a pretty big guy. Since I was playing around all the time, he threw me out.”

He’s probably the second son of some sort of merchant or something.

“I see. Well, good luck with that.”

“You’re getting cold feet. That’s all right! You should stop drinking milk and have some booze!”

“No, I’m not. I’m underage…….”

“What are you talking about? Age doesn’t matter when you drink.”

In this country, there is no legal age limit for drinking, but under Japanese law, it is out of bounds.

“I don’t drink!”

“Well, drink some milk, then. One milk, old man!”

Yakut grinned and ordered from the owner. A brown liquid with a hint of white, called Kahlua milk, was brought to the desk.

“Chris, here’s some milk.”

“It’s your favorite milk, little man.”

“Chris, it’s really good.”

“I envy you.”

The four of them try to get me to drink it with smirking faces. Huh, these guys think I don’t know what Kahlua milk is. Kahlua is probably what they call coffee in this world. I’ve had a lot of coffee milk in my past life. I’m going to surprise them by chugging it.

“Oh! You’re a good drinker!”

“That’s Chris for you!”

“Yes, the best in the kingdom!”

……

A few hours passed.

“One more Kahlua!”

“How many more, Master Chris?”

The two squires had already been crushed and had fallen asleep.

“I don’t know anything about that! I don’t even know Macbeth!”

“I can’t do it anymore.”

“Are you telling me you can’t listen to this Viscount Dreschord?”

“Yes, yes! That’s it, come on, come on, come on!”

Macbeth took the cup reluctantly, and when he finished chugging it, his face turned pale and he walked out of the store. Afterwards, I guessed what he was doing from the sound of liquid clinking on the ground outside and people’s dirty voices.

“You’re so sloppy. I’ll have to have Yulis re-train you.”

“I didn’t know Chris was a nobleman!”

“Whoa! You’re not a nobleman!”

“I’m a prince.”

“Whoo-hoo-hoo! What kind of prince gets stuck under the bed?”

The two of us laughed loudly and filthily, oblivious to the shopkeepers and customers who were looking at us coldly.

“I’m serious! In my country, food gets spoiled easily by the heat, so there’s a lot of fighting over food, and I don’t like fighting, so when I got tired of fighting, I got thrown out!”

“Seriously?! Hahahaha! Maybe if we make a pot-in-a-pot or something like that, it’ll be a little better!”

“What’s that?”

The man’s face suddenly became serious, but I couldn’t read the change in his expression and spoke in the same tone.

“It’s called thermal vaporization, and it’s used to harness the massive amount of heat and energy that water takes up when it evaporates.”

“What?”

“We put a smaller pot on top of the larger one, fill the space between the pots with wet sand, and cover the mouth of the pot with a damp cloth. As the water from the sand slowly evaporates from the outer pots, it cools the inside of the pots and prevents the produce from spoiling.”

“There’s no such thing.”

“Oh! I’ll give it to you for free! Ha-ha-ha!”

The man suddenly stood up, placed two gold coins on the desk and opened his mouth.

“I’ve got to go! Here’s some money for drinks. I owe you.”

He walked out of the tavern quickly.

“Oh, see you later! Ha-ha-ha!”

Afterwards, I had a few drinks by myself, lost my memory, and when I woke up, I was dumped on the side of the road with my squires.
