Becoming a Face Genius Choreographer - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Hyojin, a receptionist at MW Entertainment, came to work today feeling restless.
She had been hopping between hunting bars and drinking spots until late last night, yet she hadn’t come across a guy who caught her eye.
“Haa.”
“Why are you like that? Wake up.”
“I’m so sleepy, Big Sis.”
“It’s almost 1:00, there’s gonna be a lot of people auditioning.”
“I think I’m still under the influence of alcohol. I don’t feel cold, which is amazing.”
“Ugh.”
*Heh*
Hyojin joked and laughed playfully with Yoonju, her coworker, as they exchanged banter.
But that luxury didn’t last long.
As Yoonju mentioned, with the audition time approaching, both trainees and dancers were bustling in, filling up the space.
‘…I don’t know where all these babies have been.’
When she would see trainees arriving, she would gasp in surprise.
‘Heh, That one really looks like a sesame seed.’¹
These handsome young men, who she hadn’t even found when she stayed out late last night.
Though they were all very young, the youthful faces of the trainees were clearly recognizable.
Today was the day for auditions for both dance teams and idol trainees at the same time.
Most of them are idol applicants, but there are also some occasional dancer aspirants among them.
“It’s really interesting. I think I can tell who’s auditioning for the dance team and who’s auditioning for the idol simply by looking at them.”
Hyojin whispered to Yoonju next to her.
“How can you tell?”
“Ei, Big Sis, can’t you tell just by looking at them? Different faces, different vibes! The ones who look like idols are idols, and the ones who look like they’re just here to dance are dancers!”
“Huh. That’s funny. Then what about that person over there?”
Yoonju pointed to the man who had just entered the doorway.
Flawlessly tall, with bangs that came down just enough to cover his eyebrows.
“Just look at him, he’s clearly an idol!”
Hyojin replied confidently, making a beeline for the man.
“How can I help you?”
“Uh…”
‘Wow, he’s the best candidate I’ve seen today.’
As she thought to herself, the man said in a cautious voice.
.
.
.
“…I’m here to audition for the dance team.”
A man who was clearly handsome. Hyo-jin, who had just finished directing the man she thought was an idol applicant, returned to Yoonju’s side with a blank expression.
“See? You can’t tell just by looking at the face.”
“Wow, I thought he was an idol trainee…”
She said giddily.
“I was so surprised when he said he was here for the dance audition that I couldn’t answer him.”
At Hyojin’s words, Yoonju stared at Yeonwoo as he headed for the elevator.
“Well, he doesn’t dress up much, giving off a bit of a rustic vibe, but he does have a face that could look good with some styling.”
*Nod.*
Hyojin nodded vigorously, as if in agreement.
Suddenly, she turns to Yoonju and asks.
“By the way, Big Sis. Aren’t you close with Deputy Choi from the rookie development team?”
“Yeah. And?”
“What do you think?”
“…Ah.”
Speaking of which, Deputy Choi had asked her to tell them if she saw anyone that she thought might be a potential trainee.
Yoonju listened to Hyojin’s words and thought about it.
‘Hmm. Really. Definitely.’
‘Isn’t he simply a waste of visuals to be just a dancer?’
Finishing her musings, Yoonju muttered quietly.
“Hmm. Maybe I should talk to them later?”

“T-Thank you so much!”
At the front of an elevator.
The woman whom he had encountered unexpectedly shouted, bowing her head as if she was going to prostrate herself.
Yeonwoo was dumbfounded.
This was someone he had never expected to see again.
It was barely a week ago that the Taeha Shopping Center caught fire.
To see her again so soon, even as a participant for an audition.
‘Oh, maybe she’s not a dancer.’
‘Come to think of it, there’s an audition for idol trainees today as well.’
As he stared at her, Yeonwoo’s mind drifted to that.
At the time of the event, he was so distracted that he couldn’t properly look at her, but now that he did, he could see her clear and smooth complexion.
From her age to her demeanor, and above all, her obviously unusual appearance. More like an idol than a dancer.
“Well. You don’t have to be so grateful. I didn’t do it for anything, I just couldn’t walk past it.”
Yeonwoo says, while scratching his cheek, and the woman smiles brightly.
“That’s what I’m thankful for.”
Receiving blind gratitude was a bit overwhelming.
“I’m Hyerin, Joo Hyerin.”
“…And, I’m Choi Yeonwoo.”
They exchanged handshakes along with light introductions.
“By the way, are you here for the audition today…?”
As Hyerin was speaking, she suddenly looked around anxiously, fidgeting with her hands.
“?”
It seemed like she was lost in thought as she nervously fidgeted with her hands while speaking.
“I don’t think it’s weird! I’ve heard it before. When they’re looking for female idol trainees, male trainees also apply. Oh, that’s great! That’s how you want to get into the company, right?”
While she was passionately defending herself like that, it seemed like she was firmly convinced of something.
It’s something he had heard before too.
People are so eager to get into the company that even when they’re recruiting female trainees, male trainee applicants flock in.
But that’s not what he was thinking.
“I heard they’re also holding auditions for male idols today…”
He said softly, and Joo Hyerin looked back at him with a blank expression.
Obviously, he has no idea about the schedule of idol auditions, but he knows there are both male and female.
Otherwise, the receptionist wouldn’t have asked him which audition he was going to.
“Oh, really? I’m sorry. I must have been mistaken. I really hope you make it…”
“But I didn’t come here to audition to be an idol.”
At his words, Hyerin froze and her face stiffened.
She was so shocked that she looked like she was about to break…
At this rate, it seems there was another misunderstanding.
“T-Then… A-Are you a trainee at our agency? I’m sorry…”
“That’s not it either.”
Now her expression looked as if she were seeing a monstrous figure.
“Y-You made your Debut…?!”
“No, no, that’s not it. I’m not auditioning for MW Entertainment Idol today, I’m auditioning for the dance team.”
*Ding-!*
The elevator finally arrived at the perfect time.
As he boarded first, Joo Hyerin came in after with question marks written all over her face.
She seemed to know nothing about auditions other than the one she was seeing.
As he pressed the button for the 3rd floor, his hand hovered over the 5th floor button, pressing it firmly.
“Trainee auditions are on the third floor, dance team auditions are on the fifth floor.”
“Ah…?”
She suddenly understood that the dance team auditions were happening at the same time.
“So you’re… a dancer?”
“No, not yet.”
Well, technically, he guess you could call himself a dancer.
In fact, until he passed the audition, he was practically a nobody.
“Oh. Sounds like me.”
She pauses for a moment to consider her answer,
Smiling mischievously, she turned around and said.
“I’m not an idol either, ‘not yet.'”
*Swish!*
“Thank you.”
They reached the third floor first.
As she stepped off the elevator, Joo Hyerin gave him another quick wave.
“Hey. Good luck with the audition.”
*Swooosh*
He wished her the best.
Joo Hyerin sucked in air at his words and struck a fighting pose.
“You too, Yeonwoo!”
…Calling him Yeonwoo feels a bit awkward to be addressed as such.
He stared at her back through the closing door.
Vibrant and full of energy.
“She’s quite pretty.”
It was one thing to be pretty, but there was something about her that made her sparkle.
A feeling that can make the viewer feel good.
Well, perhaps that’s why she’s becoming an idol, right?

“Hi. Your name?”
As soon as the elevator doors opened on the fifth floor, a man greeted him with a piece of paper.
It seemed he had been informed in advance from the first floor and was waiting for him.
“I’m Choi Yeonwoo.”
“Okay. This way.”
He followed behind him, glancing around the hallway as he guided the way.
MW Entertainment.
Usually when one thinks of idol management companies, one thinks of ‘prestigious’,
MW has always been known as the ‘home of boy groups’.
While it can’t be compared to HY, one of the top five agencies in the entertainment industry, MW’s boy groups have always performed with a strong and stable fan base.
MW’s choreography team, Free Plus, rose to fame when they choreographed for MW’s boy group, Howl Boys.
The concept of Howl Boys, a boy group known for intense dancing, masculinity, and a slightly old-school vibe.
They packaged their concept with choreography that was anything but old-fashioned, instead emphasizing sophistication and maximizing the ‘cool’ factor.
Subsequently, Free Plus signed a contract with MW as if they were integrated, and operated as the company’s own choreography team.
‘It’s spacious.’
As expected from a company with such a strong internal organization, the fifth floor of the building is quite spacious.
The walls of the hallway were painted in a solid color, and there were two production rooms at the back.
From there, one has to go deeper to find the dance studio.
They walked into the first room, which looked like an audition room.
There’s a second, smaller room attached right next to it.
“This is the waiting room.”
The man said as he opened the second room.
In the waiting room, the participating dancers who had arrived earlier were practicing.
“You’re dancing so well.”
“Haha.”
The atmosphere was much brighter than he expected.
It was a warm and friendly atmosphere, with everyone complimenting each other and watching the dances.
“We’ll start the auditions in a few minutes, so why don’t you go warm up and practice like everyone else.”
The man who led him to the waiting room announces in a booming voice and disappears.
Yeonwoo tapped the floor with his toes, stretched out his arms with his fingers curled, and then spun around to loosen up his body.
‘Good.’
He had a great feeling.
Deciding to maximize the waiting time.
Thinking if he could dance the choreography he had prepared for the audition.
Counting the beats in his head, he adjusted his posture,
But then a man sneaks up beside him.
“Excuse me.”
A short stature and long hair.
A participant with short arms, legs, and hands.
From the moment he first walked into the waiting room, Yeonwoo felt like a strange gaze was following him.
Yeonwoo noticed that the other participant’s eyes seemed to follow him as he entered the waiting room.
While the other participants were chatting animatedly with each other.
This man, on his own, not mingling with the others, was sitting in the corner, all alone.
Of course, that didn’t mean he knew the person,
nor did he expect the man to speak to him.
“Huh?”
“Aren’t you by chance Choi Yeonwoo?”
“?????”
It seems like there are a lot of surprises happening today.
How does this guy even know his name?
“That’s right, but…”
“I see! I saw you dance in a competition two months ago, you were the runner-up, right?”
Luckily, it didn’t seem like it was an awkward situation for Yeonwoo to be recognized by the man.
He did. Yeonwoo won a dance competition.
It was the last competition he went to before his body was destroyed, so he seemed to remember it.
“You must have participated in the competition.”
“Oh, no. I didn’t compete, I just watched.”
On this narrow floor, it was not unusual to recognize a dancer who had won a prize at the competition.
“Somehow, even back then, I thought your dancing was perfect for TV dancing. I never thought I’d see you at an audition for an entertainment company dance team.”
The man beside him chattered excitedly.
“I remember being really impressed by your dancing at the competition that it stuck with me.”
“…Hahaha.”
He appreciated the kind words.
Unfortunately, he didn’t even remember the dance he did back then.
It was such a long time ago, and the past ten years have been tumultuous.
Since he was sitting by himself, away from the other dancers, Yeonwoo thought he was shy or timid.
The guy was a chatterbox.
Why would someone who loves to talk so much be sitting alone?
“I was bored sitting alone”
And as if the man had read his mind, he continued.
“The other dancers here are so bad that I was disappointed.”
He leans his head gently toward me in a whisper.
“You know, the judges might have a hard time deciding between you and me.”
And then the man chuckles to himself, as if he’d just said the funniest thing in the world.
