My Big Pig Trotter Girlfriend - Chapter 16
Chapter 16: Study Time
Guan Pei bought a motion sensing game called “Fitness Ring Adventure” and connected the game console to the TV in the living room. Holding a huge circular accessory, he ran and jumped around, occasionally squeezing it continuously. It didn’t seem too difficult, but when actually playing it, this guy who spent all day either writing web novels or playing games in the house felt exhausted and began to question his life after just ten minutes.
However, he couldn’t bear to give up. It was too much fun. Every time he passed a level, he had to squat slowly, then explode upwards, lifting the fitness ring over his head to earn experience points.
Would other games have such an exaggerated victory pose? No! And this accessory even vibrated! The sense of realism doubled!
After playing for nearly half an hour, Guan Pei started to bounce around with his tongue out, his breathing getting heavier, resembling the effect after playing ball with Ling Da Zhuang’s beloved Golden Retriever.
Alright, finally passed this level!
Exhausted, Guan Pei collapsed onto the sofa behind him with a groan, only to hear a loud cry as his buttocks firmly landed on Ling Yang’s arm.
Guan Pei stood up with a disgusted look on his face. “You idiot, why haven’t you left yet?”
An hour ago, Ling Yang had said he was going to the study to work on a spreadsheet, but who knew he was still squirming on the couch, striking an indescribable pose.
How should I put it? Head down, feet up, one arm hanging on the ground, in a posture reminiscent of “The Death of Marat,” with both legs raised towards the sky, resting against the back of the sofa. If Ling Da Zhuang had seen this, he would have definitely pulled out his cane and seriously beaten him.
But unfortunately, all that was present now was Guan Pei, sweating profusely.
Guan Pei plopped himself onto the coffee table, feeling the slight discomfort from the peanut shells but too tired to care.
“Don’t feel like working, annoying. San Sha, why do you think Xie Yufei hasn’t replied to my WeChat yet?” Ling Yang blinked his long eyelashes with his big eyes. “It’s been three days.”
Guan Pei glanced down at Ling Yang’s upside-down face. “Maybe she just doesn’t want to deal with you.”
Ling Yang shook his head. “I don’t think so. Xie Yufei isn’t that kind of person. You don’t know her, she can argue with anyone just by opening her mouth, she can even leave me speechless face to face. If she didn’t want to come, she would have refused directly.”
Guan Pei felt like he was sweating to the point of dehydration. He grabbed a bottle of mineral water and gulped it down, then spoke. “In that case, maybe she’s still interested in you?”
“That’s what I’m saying, I can see it. She might just like this overbearing style. That day, I followed your instructions and acted all cool, and she became much nicer to me when we went to the zoo, even laughing and joking!”
“In that case, maybe she’s being reserved or hesitating,” Guan Pei said after drinking water, casually grabbing a pack of American almonds and starting to chew.
Taking advantage of his position, Ling Yang directly moved his mouth under Guan Pei’s hand, automatically opening it. “Give me one.”
Guan Pei shook his head. “You lazy bum, you won’t find a partner like this.”
He tossed one into Ling Yang’s mouth.
“Based on my years of experience writing romance scenes, when a woman behaves like this, there are usually two possibilities: she’s either reserved or hesitating. It’s easy to understand why she would be reserved. Who can successfully pursue a girl smoothly? Even ascending the throne requires three invitations and rejections before one can be crowned. Asking a girl out often requires multiple attempts before she agrees. It’s too unreserved to agree immediately after being asked out.”
Ling Yang opened his mouth, and as an emotionless automatic feeding machine, Guan Pei silently fed another almond into it.
After finishing the almond, Ling Yang shook his head. “I don’t think so either. Xie Yufei’s way of thinking is as straightforward as Chang’an Street. You ask her what being reserved means, and she probably wouldn’t even know.”
That’s why I can’t seem to finish my overbearing CEO lines. Ling Yang added silently in his heart.
This time, Guan Pei had developed a reflex. Whenever Ling Yang opened his mouth, he automatically fed him almonds.
“If it’s not being reserved, then it must be hesitating. Just because she agreed the first time doesn’t mean she’ll agree the second time.”
Ling Yang finished chewing the almond and sat up contentedly on the floor. “What’s there to hesitate about! Where else can she find a charming and lovable overbearing CEO like me!”
Guan Pei gave a smile of unknown meaning. “Well, you see, even though you may look like an overbearing CEO on the outside now, in terms of temperament, forgive me for being blunt, but you still seem a bit like the foolish son of a landlord.”
“So, what you’re saying is, Xie Yufei hasn’t immediately agreed to go out with me because I’m not pretending enough?”
“It’s possible, but women, you know, nobody can truly guess what they’re thinking.”
“What should I do then? Pretend to be even more like an overbearing CEO?”
“If you ask me, just wait a couple of days. If there’s still no response, ask her out again. Asking once more won’t hurt, right? If she doesn’t come, then she doesn’t. Meanwhile, I’ll find you two overbearing CEO novels to read first. Understand the spirit, temperament is something you can’t describe but only feel.”
“At the same time, I still have to figure out Lao Hu’s marketing plan. Where’s the time to play games?” Ling Yang’s face immediately fell.
Guan Pei was triumphant. “Isn’t this perfect? I’ll finish the fitness ring levels first, then I’ll let you play.”
Ling Yang remained silent, his eyes darting around, unable to decide between playing the new game or reading overbearing CEO novels to improve his temperament.
Guan Pei continued to provoke him on the side. “If you don’t want to read, then don’t. Pretending to be an overbearing CEO is just for fun anyway. If you’re not going after Xie Yufei anymore, then forget about her. After meeting twice and getting rejected twice, not meeting her again won’t be a loss.”
It could be said that Guan Pei’s every word hit Ling Yang’s peculiar competitive spirit from their days in bunk beds. So, the foolish son of a landlord stood up in excitement. “Come on, San Sha, what novels do you have? Give them to me to read!”
What Ling Yang didn’t know was that while he was finishing his spreadsheet and reading “Rebirth: Arrogant CEO Falls in Love with Me” on his phone at night, Xie Yufei was also immersed in the sea of overbearing CEO novels.
Her project in aerodynamic acoustics had hit a setback because she had chosen the wrong algorithm herself, so she had to run the data for another three months. There was no use in being frustrated over what was already done, so Xie Yufei quickly sent out an email, emphasizing the importance of the algorithm to her students.
Naturally, she wouldn’t blame the retrograde of the five stars like Qi Qing did, nor would she go buy a waterproof retrograde charm to hang on her bag. Her strategy was to open the search engine and start researching overbearing CEO novels.
When one research project faced setbacks, it was best to soothe the soul with another research project.
As a qualified researcher, Xie Yufei began by collecting literature.
Since Sci-Hub was inaccessible and there weren’t many documents on CNKI, Xie Yufei had to start with the basics—screening well-known novel websites and apps.
In no time, she entered the famous online literature forums and selected several platforms that met the basic requirements.
Then, she further subdivided them, identifying which websites specialized in novels featuring overbearing CEOs and which ones had more diverse audiences.
Next came the data collection stage that research dogs loved so much.
Xie Yufei spent two nights studying various rankings and updating criteria, collecting a large amount of data from forums, and even figuring out various ranking manipulation methods used by major platforms for female readers.
So, did she start reading novels?
No, she was itching to write a vote-cheating program and website algorithm to see if it could be detected.
But reason told her that she should stick to her original intention when doing research. Summarizing the behavioral patterns of overbearing CEOs was her top priority, so she returned to the overbearing CEO novels themselves.
At the beginning, Xie Yufei made an Excel sheet, listing the top ten overbearing CEO novels on various websites and categorizing them based on their introductions and titles.
Through reading numerous reviews, document numbers, and forum discussion threads, she learned that overbearing CEO novels were just a broad category, with different subcategories and genres within.
They could be divided by theme into rebirth, time travel, contemporary, ancient, and so on, with subcategories like transmigration and fast-transmigration under time travel.
They could also be categorized by style into “sweet petting type,” “compulsion type,” “tragic love type,” “contract lover type,” and so on. Analyzing the platform’s ranking lists revealed that the “tragic love type” was already outdated, while the “sweet petting type” and “chase wife crematorium type” were currently popular.
Up to this point, Xie Yufei found that a simple table couldn’t satisfy her anymore. This complex classification needed a coordinate system.
So, she drew horizontal and vertical axes.
In addition to the writing style, the “overbearing CEO,” as the soul of overbearing CEO novels, naturally needed categorization as well.
Whether it’s the scheming type, the rough type, the cold exterior but warm interior type, or the highly intelligent type, they all needed a coordinate system to make sense of.
As she drew, her thoughts began to wander again. For novels like overbearing CEO stories, which have high homogeneity and obvious characteristics, could she collect a large amount of data first to build a corpus, and then write an algorithm to let AI automatically produce overbearing CEO novels? As long as you input the desired attribute tags, you could automatically extract sentences from the corpus to generate paragraphs. Similarly, those face-slapping novels, cute pet novels, and gourmet novels could also be produced in the same way.
Ah, she realized she wasn’t deeply involved in machine learning. So, Xie Yufei turned to literature on AI writing for a while before returning to the task of drawing.
That night, Xie Yufei became engrossed in the joy of classification and drawing, unable to tear herself away. When she finished drawing, she looked at the time and realized it was already three in the morning.
She went to the fridge and grabbed a can of banana milk to refresh herself. Suddenly, she wanted to identify what type of overbearing CEO Ling Yang was. He definitely wasn’t the highly intelligent type based on current observations, and he probably wasn’t the cold exterior but warm interior type with all the talking. Could he be the scheming type?
Xie Yufei shook her head. Without reading the novels and with incomplete data collection, it would be more accurate to identify him after reading the selected overbearing CEO novels.
As the saying goes, don’t boast about drawing beautiful pictures, just like going out at night in splendid attire.
Xie Yufei had finally drawn a few non-confidential charts with great difficulty, and she quickly sent them to Qi Qing to show off.
Qi Qing, the PPT woman who hadn’t slept at all at three in the morning while working on her seventh revision of a proposal, received Xie Yufei’s flaunting message and replied with an extremely disdainful expression: “You think you can compete with professionals in drawing?!”
Xie Yufei was annoyed. “I can draw three-dimensional velocity field vector diagrams.”
Qi Qing pulled out her ultimate weapon. “Each slide of my PPT costs tens of thousands of dollars, in USD!”
Xie Yufei didn’t respond. She decided not to stoop to this woman’s level. She was going to read “Love in Heaven and Earth: Beloved Spoiled Little Wife” instead.
