Dense Fog - C4.1
This was the coolest reason for rejection Lin Wu had ever heard, no doubt about it. It was so cool not only in its ability to completely crush the confessing party’s hopes, but also to uproot any romantic feelings they may have had, such as with the school flower.
For nearly a minute or so after being rejected, she silently locked eyes with the buzz-cut boy, appearing quite calm. However, from the shimmering gaze in her eyes, Lin Wu was able to discern layers of introspection taking place within:
You don’t like humans?
Are you kidding me?
No, he’s serious.
Wait, would a normal person use “not liking humans” as a way to reject a confession?
What a psycho!
I think this guy’s perception must have some serious issues…
“Wang Ye,” the school flower finally spoke up again, “Have you never liked anyone before? You know, the kind of liking that makes you want to date them.”
Buzz-cut: “No, never.”
Senior sister: “If one day you were to meet that person…”
Lin Wu felt a bit disheartened.
Even if he were to meet that person, it would be someone else’s love. Do you really have to bring up a girl that might finally move him, only to hurt you again? Senior Sister, please be sensible!
Senior: “If you do meet that person, make sure to post it on your Moments so I can laugh at you to my heart’s content.”
Lin Wu: “…”
Yes, Senior sister, you can do that. The school flower’s confession was bold, and her exit was even more heroic.
Now there was only Wang Ye left under the wall.
The wind rose and ceased, and the fog as well thickened and thinned. Too many things had happened today, and Wang Ye felt that this moment was suitable for a comprehensive review.
In the early morning when the sky was bright, a thick fog appeared. It was obviously not an ordinary fog.
He couldn’t buy his favourite egg pancake for breakfast in the cafeteria. On the way to the classroom, two classmates were fooling around and got on his nerves. He thought it was funny, but just as they stopped being rowdy, the two of them almost knocked him over.
He took a step back and swore it was only a slight adjustment, but ended up knocking over a bunch of people behind him. Then the three of them were taken to the office for a reprimand.
After class was cancelled, he went back to his dorm to take a nap, but before he knew it, he was called out here again.
One time is a coincidence, but if it happens repeatedly, then it’s fate.
Wang Ye suspected that his fortune today was extremely bad and it would be best to avoid everything; avoid going out, avoid attending classes, avoid love confessions, and avoid eating egg pancakes.
Lin Wu couldn’t understand why that guy at the bottom of the wall hadn’t left yet. Could it be that he actually likes the senior sister but for some reason had to reject her, and now he can only stay there and feel sad after she leaves?
Anyway, whether the buzz-cut guy leaves or not, he himself had to go. The security guard outside had just finished patrolling this area and his footsteps had completely disappeared. Lin Wu hugged the wall, and just as he was about to step over to the other side, he heard a faint Meow~”.
A little black cat appeared from under the bushes near the wall, staring warily at Wang Ye who had invaded its territory. Wang Ye saw it too, and they locked eyes from a distance.
The little black cat looked a bit fierce, but Wang Ye’s gaze was even more fierce. At first, Lin Wu thought it had to do with his hairstyle; the buzz-cut style naturally exudes a roguish charm. But as time passed silently during the standoff between Wang Ye and the cat, he began to suspect that it might not just be his hairstyle. This guy exudes the “I am a hooligan” vibe from head to toe!
Wang Ye suddenly moved.
Lin Wu trembled with fear. Was this guy really going to harm a cat?
Whoosh–
He squatted down. He raised his hand in anticipation only to beckon at the small black cat, saying, “Mimi,
Lin Wu thought to himself, “Who told you that every cat is named Mimi?”
The little black cat remained motionless, even seeming to move backwards.
Wang Ye asked, “Meow meow?”
Wang Ye asked, “Little Flower?”
Wang Ye asked, “Er Mao?”
[TN: Er Mao – I think he’s referring to cat as ‘gray fur’ basically saying its old]
…Lin Wu felt like the cat wanted to scratch him.
Perhaps Wang Ye’s persistence in giving it ridiculous names had won over the feline, as the little black cat tilted its head and looked at him for a while before tentatively taking two steps forward.
Wang Ye was immediately inspired.
“Er Mao, come here, Er Mao.”
Finally, the little black cat came to him.
Wang Ye’s eyes lit up, and he immediately reached out to the furry little ear.
“Snap!”
The little black cat scratched the back of his hand with a paw and happily ran away.
Lin Wu was relieved, a job well done.
Happiness is after all contagious, but then Wang Ye beneath the wall looked up without warning.
Two pairs of eyes met.
The laughter froze on Lin Wu’s face, as he remained fixed on the wall.
The wind started to pick up.
The fog surged like a wave, obscuring them both.
In the last moment before his sight was swallowed up by the thick fog, Lin Wu saw Wang Ye turn around without hesitation and mutter, “What the hell?”
Lin Wu: “…”
He had misunderstood an honest male classmate.
It turns out that not liking humans is really just what it means, not liking humans.
