Dense Fog - C7.2
During the pool incident, Lin Wu had listened to the entire event through the voice connection on the phone that had been thrown on the ground without being disconnected. His heart clenched with worry. Even after Ren Feiyu fumbled for his phone and hoarsely reassured him that he was fine, Lin Wu still rushed to the school infirmary as soon as the call ended.
As he pushed open the door to the observation room, he saw Ren Feiyu holding his phone, grinning foolishly at the male student in the neighbouring bed, “Benefactor, I’ve sent the friend request. Please accept it.”
Alright, he seemed genuinely fine.
The male student noticed Lin Wu first and glanced at him indifferently.
Following his gaze, Ren Feiyu saw his roommate, “Hey? How did you get here?”
Lin Wu walked over, annoyed, “I came to see the expert who could swim right into the school infirmary.”
Ren Feiyu mumbled, “I was saving someone…”
Lin Wu said, “Yeah, and then you got yourself into trouble too.”
Ren Feiyu pouted, and the joy of getting Jiang Tan’s WeChat quickly dissipated.
Seeing his deflated expression, Lin Wu’s heart softened. He casually patted his head in a comforting manner, “It’s alright. As long as you’re okay.”
Ren Feiyu had been holding up quite well until that moment. When Lin Wu comforted him, the tension in his heart snapped, and he couldn’t control the surge of grievance in front of someone he trusted, “I didn’t expect him to suddenly grab me in the water… Really… Everything was going smoothly until then…”
Lin Wu didn’t fully understand the situation but could tell that Ren Feiyu was genuinely upset, his voice nearly cracking.
He quickly patted Ren Feiyu’s back and whispered encouragingly, “Hold it in, save it for when we’re back in the dorm. There are people around…”
That reminder made Ren Feiyu pull himself together.
His saviour was still nearby, and he couldn’t embarrass himself like this!
“Lin Wu, this is Jiang Tan, from the School of Mechanical Engineering, my lifesaver—” Ren Feiyu pushed his roommate aside, and gestured toward the neighbouring bed with a sweeping motion, as if he were welcoming a distinguished guest, his spirits high and his voice booming.
Lin Wu: “…”
That was a quick change of face.
“Bro, thank you.” Lin Wu turned to Jiang Tan and said, “My name is Lin Wu, from the School of Environmental Sciences.”
Jiang Tan gave him a shallow nod, and since Ren Feiyu had already introduced his name and department, he didn’t seem to feel the need to repeat it.
Jiang Tan’s aloofness irked Lin Wu a little, but actions speak louder than words. Jiang Tan had genuinely saved Ren Feiyu, and as for whether he had a good personality or not, they weren’t becoming friends, so it wasn’t their place to judge.
However, Ren Feiyu didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong with his saviour, and the way he looked at Jiang Tan was as if he were admiring a male idol.
Lin Wu wondered if there were such a gloomy idol, lacking any liveliness, with pale skin and even paler lips. Looking at him, Lin Wu couldn’t help but associate him with the sombre twilight of winter.
“What’s going on? How did you end up in the hospital?” The door to the observation room was pushed open again, and a person entered with a gust of wind.
As soon as he entered, the entire observation room felt cramped. It wasn’t just because he was tall, but mainly due to his strong aura. He had the air of a gang leader surrounded by a group of followers.
And his hairstyle also looked like someone from the underworld.
With his rebellious buzz cut, he relied on his good looks to get away with it… Wait a minute!
Lin Wu’s eyes widened in surprise.
The confusing dense fog.
Underneath the wall.
Refusing the senior girl.
Petting a cat, Er Mao…
Isn’t this the guy who doesn’t like people?
What was his name? Wang Ye?
The newcomer entered the room and headed straight for Jiang Tan without glancing around. He stood by the hospital bed, studying him for a while, and frowned, “Aren’t you fine?”
Jiang Tan calmly replied, “I was fine all along.”
Wang Ye’s expression seemed like he had been deceived, “You didn’t say that on the phone.”
Jiang Tan held up his phone, displaying the glaring call log, “Call duration: 9 seconds.”
Wang Ye: “…”
In Lin Wu’s mind, he thought, the phone is dead, but people are alive; why not call back after hanging up? However, it seemed that the two students didn’t intend to continue discussing this topic as if they accepted that a “one-time call” was perfectly reasonable.
The senior girl who confessed to Wang Ye was from the mechanical engineering department, and Jiang Tan, who was visited by Wang Ye, was also from the same department. Lin Wu followed this train of thought, guessing that Wang Ye must also be from the mechanical engineering department, and perhaps the two even shared a dormitory, just like he and Ren Feiyu.
So, they were good buddies, right? As soon as Wang Ye heard something happened, he rushed over without even asking further questions.
Or was it that… buddies don’t count as people?
While Lin Wu was pondering aimlessly, Wang Ye’s gaze suddenly swept over, as if he had just noticed there were other people present.
Lin Wu was startled, holding his breath.
He didn’t know why he felt guilty; even if he was recognized, he hadn’t deliberately eavesdropped. He was an innocent third party with good intentions. Moreover, Wang Ye didn’t lose face at that time; it was the senior girl who was rejected. Even if he was seen, nothing should happen, right?
But no matter how clear his thoughts were, it was difficult to control his conditioned reflex.
Lin Wu could only attribute it to Wang Ye’s temperament. He seemed fierce and aggressive, like someone who could easily get into a fight if provoked – “What are you looking at? What’s wrong with looking at you?” – and then pounce on you with a beer bottle.
However, Wang Ye’s gaze easily slid past Lin Wu, without any particular reaction.
On the other hand, Ren Feiyu immediately introduced himself enthusiastically, “Hello, my name is Ren Feiyu, from the environmental engineering department. Thanks to Jiang Tan jumping into the water to save me, otherwise, I would have been done for!”
“Oh,” Wang Ye responded simply, “Wang Ye, from mechanical engineering.” Then he retrieved his gaze, grabbed a stool, and sat down beside Jiang Tan’s bed.
Lin Wu: “…”
No wonder they were buddies; they both had the same unapproachable aura. But Wang Ye was slightly better than Jiang Tan. At least, he replied with five words, “Wang Ye, from mechanical engineering.” No, wait, there’s also an “Oh,” so six words.
