Papa’s friend ③

「 So where does Belrena actually come from? Dionore didn’t kidnap her right? 」

「 Un. Papa helped me!! 」

He was worried that Papa took me by force, but that was the case. While I don’t know about the Papa from before we met, to me, Papa is kind and someone I can be proud of. 

I sat next to Papa. And when I looked up to take a peek at Papa, Papa was flashing a small smile.

Papa’s smiling face is so pretty. It just takes one look from that pretty smiling face, for me to be happy enough to be grinning. 

「 So he helped you….. While I don’t think that he’ll help you for no reason, how was it at the start? 」

「 At first Papa said that he wanted to use me! 」

「 So he was set to use you from the start!! 」

「 ….. That’s only at first. I don’t plan to do that anymore 」

「 Uwa, so you admit that you were planning to use her at first. In the first place, if you didn’t kidnap her, then from where did you pick her up? 」

Nicolad-san was sitting across from Papa. And from his seat, he was looking over with delight. 

「 She was a victim of God’s mischief. And was wandering around. It was then that I found her. She was about to vanish 」

「 ….. Oh that. Although I’ve heard the rumours, I’ve never seen it for real. The original soul gets chased out and is replaced by another, and although it is named because of such a god-like phenomenon, nobody really knows what it’s in actuality 」

It looks like Nicolad-san knows about God’s mischief. 

Is Nicolad-san perhaps a sorcerer like Papa? If that’s the case, does that mean Nicolad-san is an amazing person? If he has a familiar like Tobai, then he must be. 

Although Papa is most amazing!!

「 If she was vanishing, Then Belrena wouldn’t be here if Dionore hadn’t found her 」

「 Un!! I, it was because I met Papa that I could eat food like this, I can touch things, and even talk to someone 」

That I can eat, touch something and even talk to someone ―― All that, is because of Papa. Thinking that makes me so thankful to Papa. 

「 I see. That great 」

Saying that Nicolad-san let out a soft smile. 

「 God’s mischief huh….. Dionore found her because he’s able to see souls. I probably wouldn’t be able to sense it. There might be unexpectedly more of these things happening without anyone realising 」

Muttered Nicolad….. Thinking that God’s mischief is happening in places we don’t know about, makes me scared. It’s a scary thought, that the people we know might have already become someone else, by the time we realise. 

Although I won’t go through the same thing again, and Papa would find out quickly even if it did, those two years have had a great impact on me. 

「 So this guy, after living with a homunculus child, sends me a letter asking how to make children happy. And although I came here out of curiosity, I’m glad that I came. I got to meet Belrena 」

Nicolad-san smiles as he says that. I smiled in response to his bright smile. 

「 You’re so cute, Belrena. My children have all long since grown up 」

「 Nicolad-san, you have children? 」

「 I do. More than Fifty of them. They were so cute when they were little 」

Although he doesn’t seem like someone with more than fifty children, it seems like Nicolad-san loves children. So that means Nicolad-san must be a sorcerer. Are Nicolad-san’s children sorcerers too?

「 Dionore, Children at her age are really cute. But when girls grow to a certain age, they’ll start to say things like I don’t want to live with Papa!! Or, I hate Papa!! 」

Nicolad-san said that with a teasing smile, and Papa froze. Then he looked at me. He looked like he took a blow, and that surprised me. 

「 Hahahaha, that’s so funny!! Belrena, this guy, he’s anxious that Belrena will act like that once you grow up 」

「 Eh? Papa, it’s okay!! I, really, love Papa. I will never do something like that to Papa, who saved me, and that I love so much!! 」

I said that in a hurry, and Papa’s mouth slackened a little. Then he gave me a headpat. 

When he saw that, Nicolad-san smiled. 

After that, Nicolad-san stayed over. He had things to discuss with Papa, and so, I passed time reading alone. 

With Nicolad-san staying over, the mansion somehow seemed fun in a different way. The next day, Nicolad-san left, saying 「 I’ll be back 」
