Chapter 4 – Why Can I See?

The girl returned to Kenneth with a blooming smile.

“You see, as I’ve said, my existence was erased by the Eight Great Gods. Theoretically, no one should be able to sense my existence.”

“Then, why can I see you?”

Despite rubbing his eyes, the lovely girl was undoubtedly right in front of him.

“Isn’t it because you have some special skill that allows you to cognize me?

“Ahh!“

It came to my mind – [Visualization]

“Seems you do have that kind of skill”

“But it’s not activated at this moment…”

If it’s activated, I’m supposed to see through the girl’s clothes.

“Skill is something like your physical constitution. It’s activated all the time but usually has only an insignificant effect.”

Since I’ve been able to see her all along, what the girl said is probably correct.

“Because of you I was saved. I couldn’t talk to anyone during the past thousands of years, such that I thought I was going to die from loneliness.”

“Then, are you really the Demon God Vilzahard?”

If yes then it would be a disaster.

In mythology, the Demon God was the one who once terrorized the whole world. From time to time, there may be a person referred to as the Demon Lord coming on the stage of history. Those who have committed countless evil deeds with prowess in both magic and martial arts will be crowned this title. However, the Demon Lord is nothing more than a human. When it comes to the Demon God, it means something more dreadful.

If she is a god, then it makes sense that her body isn’t subjected to aging during the past thousands of years.

“I think I’ve already given an affirmative answer though. You can just call me Vilza, since you are the special human who is the sole person who can perceive me. I’ll permit you to address me disrespectfully.

Kenneth understood what a disturbing existence the Demon God was.

However, he didn’t have a real feeling of fear.

Although the girl identified herself as the mythical Demon God, Kenneth didn’t personally witness the Demon God’s evil deeds. He merely learnt of them from some literature. Above all, there was no need to be afraid if its appearance was such an adorable girl.

Nevertheless, Kenneth did feel he was entangled in some trouble.

“I’m Kenneth Cartoldo. Nice to meet you.”

“Kenneth…the name of the man who delivered me from thousands of years’ loneliness, I’ll engrave it in the depths of my heart.”

“Since you claimed to be the Demon God, you must be exceptionally powerful?”

“You should say I ‘was’ powerful, as the Eight Great Gods had to join their hands in order to barely seal me. But now, I’m not sure if I could be considered powerful.”

“So, you are weakened?”

Kenneth wouldn’t underestimate her simply because she looked like a fragile beautiful girl. In fact, a lot of mages didn’t develop their muscular strength.

“That’s not the case. My power remained the same, but since I’m imperceptible, no matter what power I exercise, it cannot interfere with this world.”

Having said that, Vilza snapped her fingers.

A magic circle was drawn at Vilza’s feet. In order to activate magic, a magic circle is indispensable. This equally applies to all mages however excellent they may be.

The magic circle expanded larger and larger.

“H-Hey, what are you going to do?”

“No worries, you just watch it.”

Vilza snapped her fingers again and the ground heaved, as if the earth became a living creature and raised its upper body, from which an eruption of magma from beneath earth’s surface ensued.

“…”, Kenneth was at a loss for words.

He failed to even give out a scream. He was on his knees in face of the tragedy that defied all common sense. But after a while, the magma that is supposed to have erupted subsided and the ground supposed to have been upheaved returned to its original shape.

People walking on the highway were not disturbed at all. They indulged in chatting with their acquaintances as if nothing happened.

“Eh…Hallucination?”

Kenneth heard about mages who use magic of the Hallucinogenic System.

“That’s not a hallucination. Just now I actually used magic. But as you can see, my magic can’t affect this world.”

“I see…”

Moments ago, no one noticed Vilza’s jumping out onto the road. In fact, if she is to make physical contact with something, she will be passed through just like being insubstantial, which is then synonymous to nonentity. In addition, her magic won’t have any actual impact on humans.

“It’s also the Eight Great Gods’ fault. They are absolutely detestable gods.”

After being shown her mighty powers just now, Kenneth was forced to trust her to be the Demon God. It is only natural that such a terrifying existence be sealed.

“I see. That’s amazing power.”

“After all I’m the Demon God.”

“Well then, I’m done picking Popoco. Now I’m going back to the Imperial capital. Bye.”

In spite of her dangerous existence, if she cannot inflict her power on anybody, it shouldn’t become a problem to leave her alone.

It seemed to Kenneth that he had better not get himself involved with the Demon God, so he decided to pretend he didn’t encounter her in the first place.
