Episode 44
For now, they put off whether Tae-seo was the child Han Mi-soon had mentioned. That was something they could confirm separately later, and currently, they focused on Tae-seo in front of them. Tae-seo, who smiled whenever their eyes met, was a child with a fresh atmosphere. He was handsome like Se-heon and seemed to have a good personality too. He looked quite popular, so why was he dating their son?
“I forgot the most important question.”
Tae-seo looked at Seo Eun-hee upon her muttering about her state of mind. He had no idea what question she would ask. Before coming here, he had filtered through quite a few questions, but now that he was here, his mind went blank, and nothing came to mind. Tae-seo put strength into his eyes, meaning to focus.
“Where did you first meet Se-heon? Even though he’s my son, I knew he wasn’t particularly kind, so I thought it would be hard for him to date.”
“What?”
Tae-seo asked back at the unexpected question. He blinked his eyes unknowingly at the more mundane question than he thought. His eyes, which he had put strength into just now, became moist and stung. He had anticipated the previous question to some extent, but he was taken aback by the latter question.
“So…”
After repeatedly tensing and relaxing his body, the tips of his fingers were all numb now. Tae-seo secretly clenched and unclenched his fists under the table. Roughly speaking, their first meeting was Kang Se-heon’s bareback, but…
When Tae-seo looked at Kang Se-heon, he was looking at him with an interested gaze, wondering what answer would come out.
“We met here at this hotel. I was in a difficult situation, and Se-heon hyung helped me. He wasn’t exactly a prince, but he appeared like a tall gentleman as if it were fate.”
The answer was quite romantic. Kang Se-heon’s eyes seemed to say that. In fact, on that day, Kang Se-heon had treated him like an abandoned object, and he had asked to be picked up.
Feeling like Kang Se-heon’s eyes were mocking his answer, Tae-seo added to his words.
“And it’s true that Se-heon hyung isn’t particularly kind.”
“Right?”
Seo Eun-hee’s voice rose as if she knew it would be like that. When Tae-seo nodded his head again as if agreeing and stayed still, Kang Se-heon, who had been listening until now, intervened.
“Is there nothing after that?”
“What?”
“Even if I’m not particularly kind, there must be something like, it was fun, or I took good care of you. What did I do for you then?”
At Kang Se-heon’s complaint about why he was staying still, Tae-seo caught the end of his words.
“To be honest, you’re not fun. Do you forget what you said to me then?”
Who was the one who called me a lump of flesh?
“Then was it all thanks to you that our conversations were enjoyable?”
“Ey, if you say it so blatantly, I’ll be embarrassed.”
Tae-seo poked Kang Se-heon’s side with his elbow and laughed. Until now, Kang Se-heon had led the conversation, but honestly, it was Tae-seo who brought life to the conversation. Kang Se-heon should acknowledge that too, right? Tae-seo was grinning, then felt like he had made a mistake. In front of Kang Se-heon’s parents, he had just retorted as usual.
He should have acted a bit more tactfully. He was worried about being seen as lighthearted, but Kang Se-heon whispered so only Tae-seo could hear.
“You can just be yourself. You don’t need to keep being nervous.”
As soon as Tae-seo looked up at him, a large warmth covered his hand. Kang Se-heon not only covered Tae-seo’s hand but also weakly gripped and released it. It seemed he had noticed that Tae-seo had been constantly tense next to him. Now that he thought Kang Se-heon had fully caught on to that, Tae-seo no longer tried to hide it.
Rather than clenching and unclenching his fists alone, the numbness in his fingertips disappeared when Kang Se-heon kneaded them.
“This is better than any decent massage machine.”
“Of course, it can’t be compared to such a machine.”
Kang Se-heon, who answered nonchalantly, belatedly seemed to find it funny and raised his other hand to cover his forehead. Kang Se-heon gazed at Tae-seo with warm eyes. There was really no dull moment when he was with Tae-seo. Now that he had introduced him to his parents, he wanted to take only Tae-seo out.
Meanwhile, Seo Eun-hee, who had been quietly watching the two, turned to look at her husband, swallowing her smile.
“I can see well how the two of them get along. You think so too, right?”
“Indeed.”
Kang Jin-han showed an interested look. Listening to their conversation, they seemed to be having quite a fun relationship. His son acted similarly when he was working, but Tae-seo, who retorted that, had quite good conversational skills and a sense that was different from others. So their conversation flowed naturally like water.
Now Kang Jin-han also wanted to have a conversation with Tae-seo. But unfortunately, Kang Se-heon took away that opportunity.
“Then I’ll get up now.”
As Kang Se-heon got up, Tae-seo, who was holding hands with him, was dragged along. Tae-seo looked at Kang Se-heon and his parents alternately with dazed eyes. It hadn’t been long since they had greeted and talked. It had barely been 30 minutes, and he was already getting up.
“See you again next time.”
But it seemed only Tae-seo was surprised, not the others. Seo Eun-hee promised next time as if she had expected it, looking at Tae-seo. Kang Jin-han seemed a bit regretful but also gave a similar greeting.
“I’ll see you next time.”
As soon as Tae-seo, who had been observing the flow of the atmosphere, threw out an appropriate greeting, Kang Se-heon turned the chair and came out. Still holding Tae-seo’s hand. And he quickly crossed the room and went outside in no time.
With the sound of the door closing behind him, Tae-seo let out an astonished sigh as if he had teleported, looking at the wall of the corridor. What is this?
“Can we come out this quickly?”
“Is there a reason we can’t?”
There was no particular reason they couldn’t, but the problem was that people usually didn’t think that way.
“I prepared since early morning to meet Se-heon hyung’s parents today…”
Tae-seo drooped his shoulders as if somewhat disappointed.
“Why is it so short?”
A somewhat absurd laugh flowed out later. Choosing clothes, neatly combing his hair back, buying flowers, simulating what kind of conversation they would have when they met. Tae-seo took out a piece of paper he had put in his pocket. The paper was all crumpled from being folded several times and put in his pocket and sitting on a chair. Rubbing the surface of the paper with his thumb, Tae-seo muttered weakly.
“I even prepared a self-introduction like I was going to a job interview.”
“Not bad? So what kind of image did you want to show?”
Kang Se-heon reached out his hand toward the paper as if he wanted to see it. However, before his hand could touch it, Tae-seo hid the paper behind him. This was just to show that he had worked hard to prepare, and he had no desire to show it to Kang Se-heon at all.
I was born as an only child and grew up receiving abundant love from my parents. My strength is that I have good improvisation skills, and my weakness is that I think a lot. Although it’s a weakness, I think being that much prudent is my unique strength.
I first met Se-heon hyung at the hotel. I got to know him through his help when I was in a difficult situation. After that, through several meetings, we fought a lot, but there were more days we got along well. Still, at some point…
The hand holding the paper trembled. When did his heart go to Kang Se-heon?
‘Anyway, I absolutely can’t show him this.’
He might roll over laughing if he read it.
“A person who is neat, calm, and dignified, answers any question without hesitation, and has a promising future.”
“…Save that for when you really get a job later.”
At least not now.
Tae-seo pouted his lips at Kang Se-heon’s relentless judgment. As it was, nothing went as he expected, even though he had prepared a lot.
All he showed was stammering, being shy, and having a conversation with Kang Se-heon as if playing around. Tae-seo sighed and expressed his concern.
“I wonder if they looked upon me favorably.”
“It’s enough that you showed your true self.”
“Is my usual self that good?”
So did he think it wasn’t lacking at all to show to others? Tae-seo subtly expressed his expectation to hear better words from Kang Se-heon, asking if his objective self was really that good.
“If you approach with a fabricated image from the beginning, only you will get tired. Think about the future. It’s best to show yourself as you are.”
“So it’s not because I’m a good person but for another reason?”
“…Let’s eat.”
When Tae-seo retorted as if he was offended, Kang Se-heon changed the subject.
“Don’t change the subject.”
“Aren’t you hungry? Let’s eat here without going far.”
“I’m telling you to explain what you said earlier again.”
“The burger we ate last time looked delicious, let’s eat that.”
“You keep changing the subject, don’t you?”
“I might properly answer if you show me that paper.”
As Kang Se-heon couldn’t let go of his attachment to the paper, Tae-seo sorted out the situation.
“Let’s just go eat.”
“Good thinking.”
Kang Se-heon’s laughter echoed in the corridor. Tae-seo’s cheeks rose as if that laughter was mocking him. He kept teasing him and didn’t seem to take today’s meeting seriously.
“Did you come without any thoughts, hyung?”
“Not really…”
Kang Se-heon, who had really come with a light heart, was about to answer like that but suddenly stopped. As he stopped in the middle of the corridor, people passing by glanced at Kang Se-heon. Their gazes passed over their clasped hands and looked at Tae-seo before moving on.
Since holding hands earlier, Tae-seo wondered why they were still holding hands. He was going to let go now but thought it wouldn’t really matter, so he left it. Instead, he looked at Kang Se-heon as if asking why he had stopped.
“Come to think of it, I forgot something.”
“What is it? Do you want to go back and say it now?”
“Should we?”
Tae-seo readily turned his body. If they were still there, it was okay to go right away, say it, and come out.
“I forgot about ‘honey’.”
-What reacts so well to the sound of ‘honey.’ Should I call you that from now on?
[Sure. If possible, it would be even better if you call me that in front of other people.]
Recalling the conversation they had before, Tae-seo’s eyes narrowed.
This guy.

“You know what? Let’s forget about the engagement between Tae-seo and In-hyuk.”
At Kim Mi-kyung’s words that she struggled to say, Han Mi-soon’s lips began to tremble.
